The Chino Creek Wetlands on El Prado Road is the quietest walk in Chino: flat looping trails around ponds and tall grass, birds everywhere, interpretive signs, a shaded theater for resting, picnic tables, drinking fountains, and shaded parking under the trees. A loop is about a mile, and reviewers say they have never felt crowded on it.

The entrance is an easy-to-miss gravel road south of the city's bustle. Google marks it as allowing dogs. Walk quietly and the wildlife stays put; it is a leash walk, not a run.

Discovery Park on Discovery Park Avenue is a newer park on the Preserve side of Chino with a dog area, a zip line, an obstacle course, basketball, small science stations, restrooms and a water-bottle fountain. Reviewers describe it as clean, quiet and thoughtfully designed, with shaded benches for a slow morning.

Some equipment has shown wear early and a reviewer noted litter, so it is not spotless every day. Street parking. The dog area makes it more than a walk-through for a Chino dog.

Shady Grove Park on Chino Avenue earns its name: a shaded walking track around a big lawn, plenty of benches, picnic tables under cover, grills, two half-court basketball hoops and restrooms that reviewers say are readily available. Google's own summary calls the walking trail dog-friendly.

Families drive past other parks to come here. Parking is limited, with a paid lot and street spaces, so weekday evenings are easier than weekend afternoons. It is the clean, easy loop.

American Heroes Dog Park on Hellman Avenue is a neighborhood dog park with a large-dog enclosure and a small-dog enclosure, mature trees giving shade in both, benches inside and out, bags, restrooms and plenty of parking. In the evenings a group of locals and their dogs are there most days, and reviewers describe them as friendly.

One quirk: the water fountain for dogs is just outside the enclosures, so you leash up to get a drink or bring a jug like the regulars do. Weekday afternoons are quiet.

Prado Recreation on Euclid Avenue is not a city dog park. It is a large paid dog recreation area with thirteen ponds for swimming and training, used for hunting-dog training, lure coursing, club events and competitions, with camping on site. Reviewers with working or water-loving dogs call it a break from city life.

Expect a fee, expect construction and closures at times, and expect a different crowd than a neighborhood park. For a dog that swims or retrieves, there is nothing else like it in the area.
