Here’s how we decide how often to scoop dog poop at DooGoodScoopers, what the weekly-versus-bi-weekly difference actually costs, and the one situation where we won’t do bi-weekly at all.
The short version: weekly, unless you have 1 or 2 dogs and want bi-weekly
- 1 dog: weekly or bi-weekly, your call. If you ask for bi-weekly, we don’t push back.
- 2 dogs: weekly or bi-weekly. If you ask for bi-weekly, we’ll walk you through the price difference (below) and let you decide. Some people stick with bi-weekly, some switch to weekly once they see the numbers.
- 3 or more dogs: weekly only. We don’t offer bi-weekly service for three or more dogs.
Whatever you pick, there’s no contract, so you can change it later.
Why 3+ dogs is weekly only: do the math
Three dogs, each going at least once a day, for 14 days, is a minimum of 42 piles sitting in the yard by the time a bi-weekly visit comes around. And that’s the floor. Realistically one or two of those dogs go more than once a day, so the real number is often double that: 80-plus piles.
That much waste sitting in the sun for two weeks is bad on a lot of levels: the smell, the flies, what it does to the grass underneath, what your dogs (and kids) are walking through, and what’s living in it. It also turns a quick maintenance visit into a big cleanup every single time, which isn’t fair to the yard or to the person scooping it.
So for homes with three or more dogs, weekly isn’t an upsell. It’s the only schedule that keeps the yard in a state where you’d actually want to use it.
Weekly vs. bi-weekly: what it really costs
People assume weekly is “double” bi-weekly. It isn’t. The difference between weekly and bi-weekly service is $18 a month.
Spread across the extra visits, that works out to about $9 per additional cleanup. And in months with five service days instead of four, you get an extra visit for the same monthly rate, which drops the cost of each additional cleanup to about $6.
That’s the breakdown we give two-dog households who ask for bi-weekly. Not everyone switches, and that’s fine. But it’s worth seeing the real number before deciding that every other week is the budget option. Your exact price for either schedule is in the instant quote tool; pick your dog count, toggle the frequency, and it updates on the spot.
What we see customers actually do
Two patterns, after a couple of years of doing this:
Nobody goes from bi-weekly up to weekly later. Not once that we can remember. Whatever schedule you start on is the one you stay on. So the decision you make at signup is, in practice, the decision. That’s a good reason to look at the $18 difference up front instead of assuming you’ll “upgrade later.”
One-time cleanups turn into weekly service. We get requests for a one-time cleanup, we do it, and a good share of those customers realize that having it handled every week is the better route. We’ve never had anyone try to use repeated one-time cleanups as a substitute for a schedule. Once the yard is clean, people want to keep it that way.
How to pick your frequency in 30 seconds
- Count the dogs. Three or more: weekly. Done.
- One dog: pick whichever you want. Bi-weekly is a perfectly reasonable choice for a single dog.
- Two dogs: run both numbers in the quote tool. If the $18 difference is worth a yard that’s never more than seven days behind, go weekly. If not, bi-weekly is fine.
- Not sure? Start with weekly for the first month. You’re not locked in, and it’s easier to judge “do I really need this often?” from a clean yard than from a backed-up one.
Either way, the first visit is a reset cleanup priced separately; the full pricing breakdown explains the $49 / $99 tiers and when we waive it. Our pooper scooper service covers the Inland Empire and High Desert; check the service area list if you’re not sure we come to you, and see residential service for what’s included in every visit.
Yard scooping frequency FAQ
Can I get bi-weekly service with 3 dogs?
No. For three or more dogs we offer weekly service only. Two weeks of waste from three dogs is at least 42 piles and often far more, and that’s not a yard anyone wants to be in.
How much more does weekly cost than bi-weekly?
About $18 a month, which is roughly $9 per extra visit, or closer to $6 in months with five service days.
Can I switch from bi-weekly to weekly later?
Yes, any time, with no contract. In practice, though, almost nobody does; the schedule you start on tends to be the one you keep, so it’s worth choosing deliberately.
Is a one-time cleanup enough?
If you need the yard reset for an event or a move, yes. But most people who book a one-time cleanup end up on weekly service afterward, because once the yard is clean, keeping it that way is the easy part.
